Back In Town, New Space, Recording Begins…

After a fairly epic six weeks, I’m back from playing drums with The War On Drugs. Great times and great tunes all around. I didn’t exactly follow through on my goal of keeping a blog on the road (sleep became a higher priority fairly quickly), but you can head over to our Flickr page to see tons of pictures:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/speedskating/

And now Speed Skating will be back in full swing. We’re very excited to be moving to a new studio/rehearsal space in South Philly in the next coming weeks. It’s a killer space and should be a great place for us to set up shop and get some work done.

Speaking of work, we’ll be beginning work on a new full-length immediately after moving in. There’s a good backlog of song ideas from the past two years, and now sights are set on crafting a rough draft of the complete record, followed by the actual recording of it. There’s a clear idea, yet a lot of space to fill in. No timeframe is set, but we’ll keep you posted on how it progresses.

In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for a few shows in Philly this summer.

Coast To Coast

After one week and over 3000 miles, we’ve gotten to Washington and are en route to meet up with Destroyer in Vancouver. It’s been a good trip so far, starting off with a creepy show in Kansas City (don’t visit) and following up with two fun shows in Denver (decent place, a little underwhelming) and Salt Lake City (amazing mountains!).

You would think that being a van for 8 hours a day would be getting on my nerves, but our ridiculous setup (including wireless internet) and my introduction to WFMU’s Best Show have made the drives pretty fun so far.

Things are about to pick up in a major way; tonight’s Vancouver show (Destroyer’s home town) is sold out at a 1,000 capacity venue, and it looks like we’ll be playing to a lot of big crowds this coming week. The tunes are feeling great after these shows on the way out, we’re pumped and can’t wait for it!

Updates on the Pacific Northwest shows soon. In the meantime, here are some pictures from the road.
